Rep. Mark Schauer (D-MI) hails from Battle Creek, Michigan. Prior to
serving as a member of Congress, Schauer was the Michigan State Senate
Minority Leader from 2007-2009. He was first elected to the State
Senate in 2002, and previously served in the Michigan House of
Representatives from 1997-2002 and as a Battle Creek City Commissioner
from 1994-1996.
Throughout his career Schauer has been a strong
advocate for local economic development projects, and fought for
good-paying jobs, fair trade policies, access to affordable health
care, and early childhood education. He holds a Bachelor's Degree from
the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Public Policy and Service at Albion
College, and has Masters Degrees in Political Science from Michigan
State University and Public Administration from Western Michigan
University.
